Throwback to the Renaissance
Joan of Arc Vs. Malala
Joan of Arc
Joan of Arc was a teenage girl who came from France. She helped Charles be King of France in 1429, during the hundred year war. She came from a family of peasants. When she turned 13, she started receiving visions and hearing voices from Saints Michael, Catherine, and Margaret that she should make Charles king.
Soon Joan went to find the dauphin Charles. The English king Henry V had just died and Charles insisted that he should take the throne instead of Henry’s son. This then became a greater conflict between the English and the French.
In 1429, Joan led the French army to the Battle of Orléans. Charles had provided her with a small army. On May 8th, 1429, the English fled, leaving the victory to the French. Charles then became King of France.
She was then burned at the stake in May 30, 1331. Joan was tried as a heretic and a witch. Not only did she lead the French to victory, but she also united most of France.
