Throwback to the Renaissance

The Renaissance was a big turnaround in history. It was the rebirth of classical times. The word ‘renaissance’ literally means ‘rebirth’. Before the Renaissance, all of the classical knowledge of art and architecture was lost. The Renaissance is considered a bridge between the Middle Ages and modern history. There isn't a specific time period of when the Renaissance occured because it happened at different times for different countries.

 

A huge part of the Renaissance was the cultural movement called humanism. Humanism was a philosophy which made it okay for people to think beyond the church and the religion. It made people think more than what the bible told them. This created a big conflict between the humanists and the church.

 

The Renaissance was known to have began in Italy. At that time, Italy was the center of trade. Merchants from different parts of the world would gather in Venice and do buisness. Another reason why the Renaissance started in Italy was because of its city-states. Each city had their own specialities. For example, Milan was known for its armour while Florence was known for the Medici Family. The Medici Family were patrons of the art. They supported famous artists such as Leonardo Da Vinci and Brunelleschi. They were also bankers.
